Renowned Casino reopens its doors

Once known as the crown and jewel of Mississippi’s gaming industry, the Beau Rivage Resort and Casino will reopen for business on Tuesday, one year after Katrina’s disaster.

The reopening ceremony took place at the front entrance of the hotel, with 3,800 employees (400 more than before Katrina’s strike) under a sunny sky and a light breeze.

The scars left by Katrina’s fierce attack were only visible blocks away, where a crowd of protesters complaint over the lack of progress and monetary aid to rebuild low and middle budget housings for low income families.

The Beau Rivage is the seventh casino to reopen after the hurricane, and mainly, this casino boost is a direct consequence of Mississippi’s decision to allow on-shore casinos, decision that has attracted billions of dollars in investments.

Three more casinos will open in October.
